At Slamtech, we believe in full disclosure. We also believe potential wrestling students and parents (no matter how old your son/daughter is) should ask these 10 important questions of us or any other wrestling school.
A. We'd be happy to offer our documented credentials.
"Brutal" Bob Evans (President/Owner) has been wrestling professionally for almost 17 years. He was trained by Jeff "Bruiser" Costa, who was one of Killer Kowalski's first students. Bob has wrestled for WWF/WWE on WWE Jakked, Metal, All-American Wrestling, Wrestling Challenge, as well as an extra role on Smackdown. He has also appeared for Ring of Honor in Boston. Bob has wrestled such stars as Scotty 2 Hotty, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, Simond Diamond, Gangrel, Joey Abs, King Kong Bundy, Justin Credible, and many others. In 2003, Bob decided to alter his dream of reaching fame on a national level and decided to go into semi-retirement. In 2005, he started Eastern Pro Wrestling (EPW) which runs approximately 25 shows a year. His first training was February 10, 1992 and his first match was April 4, 1992. He has had over 1000 matches and is generally considered one of the premiere wrestling minds on the East Coast. He lives in Swansea, MA with his wife, Shannon and son, Robbie.
"Fall River's Pride" Dan Freitas (Trainer) has been wrestling for almost 8 years. He started in August 2000 for Yankee Pro Wrestling with his first match being in November of that same year. Dan started training at Slamtech in 2003 and has been a strong proponent of basics & fundamentals in the wrestling ring. Dan has worked for almost every high quality independent in New England and has also competed for HWA in Cincinnati. Up until recently, Dan was a tag team wrestler, but now competes mostly in singles action. Dan has always been considered the backbone of EPW & Slamtech and continues to work hard everyday to help tomorrow's athletes progress.
A. Safety and professional wrestling don't always go hand in hand. Much of what you see in the ring is very real and can be painful. However, safety can be managed by teaching proper fundamentals. Slamtech stresses these fundamentals. Many injuries can be avoided if wrestlers are taught correctly.
3. Q. Do you have any references? Any endorsements?
A. Absolutely. We have a list of approximately 40-50 people you can independently call or e-mail who will give you an idea of what Slamtech is all about. Also, wrestling legend and TNA Talent Director Terry Taylor wrote this letter after seeing our training. He was not paid to write this letter and was happy to offer it as an endorsement of Slamtech. To read the letter, click here. Former WWE Announcer/Producer Kevin Kelly has called Bob Evans "The Best Trainer in New England" and called Slamtech "The best training on the East Coast." Slamtech was also cited as one of only 25 schools in the country in the "Beginner's Guide to Pro Wrestling" by Les Thatcher, Harley Race, and Ricky Steamboat. But don't get caught up in name-dropping. Anyone can say they know anyone in professional wrestling. But chances are the school that has the most references will probably have the best track record.
4. Q. How long does it take to start wrestling for EPW or anyone else?
A. It varies. We don't rush people along as pro wrestling is more of an art form than a science. When the student is ready, we'll put him/her in the ring. Generally, it takes between 4-12 months. NO STUDENT WILL BE PUT IN ANY SITUATION WITHOUT OUR INSTRUCTORS THINKING HE/SHE IS READY.
6. Q. Do you have any connections with WWE, TNA, or ROH?
A. Slamtech enjoys a good relationship with all of the national companies. Bob has wrestled or worked with all 3 and rest assured Slamtech has good standing with the companies. But don't be fooled by our good relationship. That will only open the door. Remember, no matter what anyone tells you, YOU are the only one who can succeed to your fullest potential.
A. Practice consists of holds, maneuvers, throws, interview skills, etiquette training, and everything else pro wrestling-related. One day might be very physical. Another day might be more lecture and "brainwork" All students will be fully prepared.
8. Q. Can you help me achieve my goals in wrestling?
A. Absolutely. Some people want to be world champion. Some only want to do it on the weekends. Some want to be the best in New England. Everyone does pro wrestling for different reasons. We only ask that you do your best and try and hard as you can. Maximum effort is the way to achive maximum results, whatever your goals.
9. Q. What is required of me when I start training? What kind of a time commitment am I looking at?
A. Slamtech students are strongly advised to attend 2 practices per week. Currently, our classes are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. We cannot make you attend any practices, but if you're starting out, you should attend 2 per week. Slamtech students are required to be at all EPW shows as well, working as security, extras, ring set-up, etc. The only way to learn the wrestling business is to work from the ground-up and the inside-out. Practices are from 6:30pm - 8:30pm and shows start about 7:00pm and after break down we usually get out by 12 - 1am. If you can't stay late due to work or other commitments, we are usually starting to set up for shows around 3pm. There is a huge time commitment and we ask that you take that into consideration. If you want to be any good as a professional wrestler, you must make this commitment.
10. Q. How much is all this going to cost and what am I getting for my money?
A. Right now, we are offering a $99 down, $99 a month plan for 28 months. This includes preparation to become a professional wrestler, as well as goal-setting and work on EPW shows. And peace-of-mind that you are getting the proper training that will take you far in the industry.
